on being a creative- life imitates art
As a child, like many of us I imagine, I spent most of my time in my head. I saw the world as this dreamy and beautiful place, and to be honest— despite everything going on, I still do. When I read what you all come up with on Substack and I see the art and photography you guys post in your notes, it makes me feel less alone in the way I see the world. We’ve all spent our lives creating, and I think to continue that now is to fight this world that is falling apart.
Our art is like glue applied to a broken teapot, at least that's how I imagine it. Ideas like that are what keep me putting pen to paper or holding up the camera to the trees. In this internet climate we are told many things— do the artists way, write daily, read as much as possible, create more. And while I do think things like that are very fun, we cannot forget that our only real purpose is to create. Whether you do it daily or once a year, the importance is in the fact that you do it. Everything you create is revolutionary and new and it needs to be said or shown. So I prompt all of you to write that blog post, create a portfolio for whatever you like, or write a piece of music you are proud of.
“To be creative means to be in love with life. You can be creative only if you love life enough that you want to enhance its beauty, you want to bring a little more music to it, a little more poetry to it, a little more dance to it.”
— Osho
I am ever growing as a creative, and my goal right now is to train my mind to see all that is beautiful in the world while also seeing all that could be. And then I make it my mission to help the world become what it could be through my art and writing. I am not there yet, as I just started putting my work out into the world through this blog, but I hope to be there eventually. It is our purpose to leave the world better than it is when we get here, and I think the best way to do that is art and conversation. So please, I beg of you, write and create as much as your heart prompts you to.
